I found animation by code as something really fascinating. How we can manipulate particles and give them 'life' by playing around with parameters such as emitter radius, velocity, lifetime, rotating angle, and many kinds of forces, spinning and damping (friction). 

For my second Major Studio 2 project, I got my inspiration from when I went for a lunch at the University Center's cafeteria. It was one of those moments when you're having meal alone by yourself and your thoughts started wandering around and eventually inspired you to do a project with it. Back then I came in its rush hour, between the donut hole of classes around 3 PM to 3.50 PM, so the lines were reaaaaallly long. The next thing I know, I presented my solution idea to Anthony and here's what I've got after three weeks of concept development, user research and prototype implementation:

I've always enjoyed creating projects based on my interest, especially when it comes to food. I remember there was this one time I had a deadline to present a new 2-week project for Major Studio, and I had sudden cravings of NYC pizza. You know, just that plain classic cheese slice that just got out of the brick oven, its size so big you have to eat it like the locals: by folding it half-way so it's easier to eat and also to prevent all the yummy oily drips from getting out of place. Guys, the pizzas in NYC are serious business. If you live in NYC without ever exploring its pizza scheme, someday it will probably be your biggest regret when you're leaving this city. 

I never thought that less than 30 lines of code could result in something so beautiful like this. One of the reasons I love openFrameworks for generative art and animation like this. In this exercise I was just playing around with sine wave modulation with multiple elements. Code available on my Github page!

At Designing for Usability class, we had this interesting assignment called Shadowing (or Shopper/Observer activity) in which we had to shadow a person's behavior when entering a store to buy a specific item. 

In Your Face is a physical installation that explores the relationship between human — our body, mind, and soul — and reflective surfaces such as glass, screens and mirrors. It is a two-way mirror projection in form of a 12’’ x 12’’ transparent box that enables people to see themselves in different kinds of 3D virtual avatars.

My final project for the "Future Gadgets" class is what I called “FUTUNE”, and the storyboard concept is as follows:

The year is 2084, we’ve discovered the wormhole (Einstein-Rosen bridge) that connects us to another world. This world is actually our world but in the future (see wormhome diagram below). We are trying to find ways to communicate with our future selves through this wormhole. We start looking for signs from the universe. ...

For my CCLAB OpenFrameworks Final, I wanted to make something with similar concept as my previous Arduino project. So I'm exploring how to make Sound Visualizer in OpenFrameworks using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) library and a couple of other addons. Here's what I've got so far:

So my 3 cool friends from Parsons, Regina Flores, Miri Park and Douglas Tran are having this awesome thing called http://FaceProject.nyc that basically will project your Instagram selfie tagged with #FACEPROJECTNYC live at Washington Square's Arc at Friday, October 24th 2014 7pm ET. Just like the pic above, where you can see my face being projected gigantically to the famous arc, lol.

For my CCLAB Arduino Final we have to make something that has both input, output, and also inject some personality into it. So I made this music visualizer that will show smiley face as long as the music is not too loud, and gives annoyed face whenever the surrounding music is too loud.

We wanted to create a way for people to be able to interact from beyond the grave. We have made a physical object that embodies an individual’s personality (through their cyberself) and is able to interact with the living after their death.

So we've had this two-week long “Extended 7x7 Project” for Major Studio 1 and I decided to continue working on my old red, landline phone. The main objective of this project was to do a physical exploration of an antiquated object and see how we could reuse the same components to create or invent something new. In other words, it is also known as the act of repurposing an object. 

Last week I played around with Spotify Web API and made something really simple: Music Explorer. Just type any artist, album, or songs in the search box and it will display relevant results depending on the query. When you click on each tile it will play a 30-second preview of related song. You can also click the 'Play on Spotify' button and it will launch the Spotify web player on a new window.

This is a writing assignment for Design for the 21th Century; to write a short but dense 500-800 word essay that explores the resonance of a designed ‘thing’. 

Next project after 7x7 from Sven is to map, track and record something for straight 72 hours and then process the data into some other form - it could be data visualization, web, audio, video, timelapse, program, etc. I decided to record myself, all of my activities: what I eat, what I drink, where do I go, what do I do, how long do I sleep, how many times I peed, and some other basic stuff. So here it goes, I made an interactive web timeline using Timeline.js and Isotope JS plugin to present the data from September 6th, 2014 09:00:00 AM to September 9th, 2014 09:00:00 AM.

For my last project of 7x7 I had this fun & crazy idea of challenging myself to be vegan for a day. The overall journey is presented into animated timeline which you can see minute-by-minute activities happened during the time. 

Today, September 1st is the long-awaited Labor Day holiday. I celebrate it by going to "Astoria Eats", a local festival which spans over three and a half blocks in the 30th Avenue, Astoria, as the main street. 

Last week a dear friend of mine treated us to a Korean dinner as a warm hospitality to welcome all of us (so kind, I know!). We went to this Korean Gastropub near Union Square named Barn Joo, which apparently is also pretty popular on Yelp. According to their website, "Barn Joo", the word itself in English means musical accompaniment or drinks accompanied by your meals. It works along well with their tagline "Eat - Drink - Play" which sounds fun and I already knew that we were gonna have a great time that night!

Meet my current favorite, Glaze Teriyaki. Located at 139 4th Ave, just 6 mins walk from my building and 3 mins walk from Union Square, this is my go-to place whenever I'm craving for a quick, satisfying Asian meal which consist mostly with rice, protein and vegetables. In fact, I went here more than 3 times already, but often without proper gear (a.k.a cameras) so I only have few photos right now. Will update again soon.

Hey, as I have told you guys previously, I am currently enrolling as MFA-DT (Master of Fine Arts, Design & Technology) student at Parsons The New School for Design, NY. I have just been through one hell of a Bootcamp, which is a super intensive summer course where we learn the basics of Web, Design, and Code for 3 weeks. It has been quite a long time since I work with code back in my Comp. Sci undergrad, but apparently it feels more like a nostalgic thing now. Thus, here I am announcing that I will be starting another blog to cover the geeky side of mine, and I promise I won't mix them up with food reviews! I started my first week in NYC using AirBnb, until I realized I had to move somewhere else for another 2 weeks before my new apartment lease starts. Long story short, I got introduced to a new circle of Indonesian friends living in Elmhurst, Queens, who turned out to be total foodies! People who love to eat are always the best people, they say. Again, it's true. :)

Please welcome the birth of gourmet burgers hype in Jakarta --if you haven't heard already-- Three Buns - Burger and Heads. I guess I was lucky enough to go there on their very first day of opening (hey, free fries worth 35k + dessert voucher!), because until now the hype hasn't recede anywhere close. I was acting like such a hipster-foodie stalker on their Instagram (@burgerandheads), and I just couldn't resist the temptation.

When people ask me, "Hey where can I go for some real authentic Vietnamese cuisine in Jakarta?" Easy. There aren't many. And amongst all, MonViet wins the competition. Let me tell you why, in 8 simple way.
